Abstract

The academic discipline of economic ethics can provide two contributions to foster global food security. (a) The first contribution identifies what is to be done – and what is to be left undone - with regard to effectively combatting hunger and poverty on a global scale. The core idea is to realize normative desiderata via institutional reforms that enable morality. (b) The second contribution points to the fact that employing nor-mative categories in political discourse can be both extremely emotionalizing and ex-tremely misleading. Some forms of moral communication tend to provide disorientation instead of orientation.
