Inhaltliche Zusammenfassung
Der vorliegende Leitfaden vermittelt praxisorientiert, wie Unternehmen ein systematisches, transparentes und glaubwürdige Klimamanagement aufbauen und betreiben können. Er richtet sich an Organisationen, die Klimaschutz, Klimaanpassung und das Management klimabezogener Risiken systematisch in ihre Unternehmensführung integrieren und so rechtliche Vorgaben sowie Erwartungen von Kunden und Kundinnen, Investoren und Investorinnen und anderen Stakeholdern erfüllen wollen. Grundlage bilden aktuelle rechtliche und politische Rahmenbedingungen (z.B. European Green Deal, deutsches Klimaschutz- und Klimaanpassungsgesetz, EU-ETS, CSRD) sowie etablierte Standards wie das GHG-Protocol und relevante ISO-Normen. Der Leitfaden ist in neun Etappen strukturiert und behandelt zentrale Themenkapitel: Governance (Verantwortung der obersten Leitung, Delegation an Klimateams, Einbindung der Mitarbeitenden), Festlegung organisatorischer und operativer Bilanzgrenzen, Datenmanagement und THG-Bilanzierung (Scope 1–3, Emissionsfaktoren, biogenes CO₂), Integration klimabedingter Risiken (physische und Transitionsrisiken), Zielsetzung (THG-Reduktionsziele, Anpassungsziele), Planung und Priorisierung von Maßnahmen (Vermeiden, Vermindern, Anpassen, Kompensieren) sowie interne und externe Kommunikation. Den Abschluss bilden Hinweise zu Monitoring, Auditverfahren und Maßnahmen zur stetigen Verbesserung. Der Leitfaden bietet mit Praxishinweisen und Best-Practice-Beispielen zahlreiche praxisnahe Hilfsmittel und zielt darauf ab, Organisationen eine prüffähige, transparente und umsetzbare Orientierung für ein wirksames Klimamanagement zu geben.
This guideline provides practical guidance on how companies can establish and operate an integrated climate management system. It is aimed at organizations that seek to systematically integrate climate mitigation, climate adaptation, and the management of climate-related risks into their corporate governance in order to meet legal requirements as well as the expectations of customers, investors, and other stakeholders. It is based on current legal and political frameworks (e.g., the European Green Deal, the German Climate Protection Act and Climate Adaptation Act, EU ETS, CSRD) as well as established standards such as the GHG Protocol and relevant ISO standards. The guideline is structured into nine stages and addresses key thematic chapters: governance (responsibility of top management, delegation to climate teams, involvement of employees), definition of organizational and operational accounting boundaries, data management and GHG accounting (Scopes 1–3, emission factors, biogenic CO₂), integration of climate-related risks (physical and transition risks), target setting (GHG reduction targets, adaptation targets), planning and prioritization of measures (avoid, reduce, adapt, compensate), as well as internal and external communication. The guideline concludes with guidance on monitoring, audit procedures, and measures for continuous improvement. With practical guidance and best-practice examples, the guideline offers numerous hands-on tools and aims to provide organizations with a verifiable, transparent, and actionable framework for effective climate management.
