Abstract

Weltweit werden immer größere Anstrengungen zum Schutz und zur Verbesserung von Um-welt und Klima unternommen. Diese Entwicklung schlägt sich nicht nur in wachsenden Kosten und Investitionen für Umweltschutz nieder, sondern hat auch zu einer wachsenden Bedeutung von Umweltschutz als Wirtschaftsfaktor geführt. Diese Studie untersucht anhand verschiedener Indikatoren zu Produktion und Umsatz, zum internationalen Handel, zu Patenten und öffentli-chen Forschungsaufwendungen die Bedeutung des Wirtschaftsfaktors Umweltschutz in Deutschland sowie im internationalen Vergleich. Erstmals kommt dabei eine neu entwickelte Liste potenzieller Umweltgüter zur Anwendung.

Efforts to protect and improve the environment and climate are increasing globally. This de-velopment is not only reflected in rising costs and investments for environmental purposes but also in a growing economic relevance of environmental protection. In order to analyze the sig-nificance of the economic factor “environmental protection” in Germany and in an interna-tional comparison, this study uses several indicators such as production and sales, international trade, patents and corporate investment for research and development. Thereby, a newly de-veloped list of potential environmental protection products is applied for the first time.
